I am The Sober Fool. In the Tarot, the Fool stands at the beginning of a journey and there is no way to know if he or she will arrive at all — let alone safely. The Fool represents our willingness to heed the call to do life differently. Without this willingness, we could mire in nothingness and get to the end of our lives feeling empty and perplexed. Or we could take a chance, knowing that we are also taking a risk.

Sobriety is the beginning, not the end. And it comes with risk because every day, you have to feel your life. Sometimes it sucks and sometimes it doesn’t. At least now I know the difference.

This blog is about what it is like for me to live life differently. I will muse about how I got here; what I’ve learned so far; and how this way of living affects my family, my livelihood, and my sense of self. Sometimes it doesn’t seem fair that I can’t escape into a pleasant little buzz at the end of a long day. And sometimes it does. Either way, I am alive.
